Know Yourself, Know Your Horse
An 18-Week Journey in Embodied Awareness and Equine Connection
When you change your inner world, your relationships transform.
Know Yourself, Know Your Horse is a fully live, seasonal journey for horse owners who want to deepen their ability to attune—to themselves and to their horses. Grounded in Natural Lifemanship principles, this course weaves nervous system regulation, embodiment practices, relational work with horses, and practical human anatomy and physiology into one cohesive learning experience.
Here, anatomy isn’t taught as a separate subject. It is the foundation for embodied awareness, allowing the image to guide the sensation.
As we explore how the body is built and how it functions, you’ll learn to sense those structures and processes from the inside out. We move through all 11 organ systems in ways that are accessible and experiential, then linger more deeply with the skeletal–muscular, respiratory, cardiovascular, and nervous systems—because these systems shape how we move, breathe, regulate, and relate.
This is a course about attunement—made possible by knowing your body well enough to listen to it.
No pre-recorded modules. No passive watching. Just intentional, weekly live sessions that help you show up with clarity, presence, and connection—for yourself and for your horse.
Part 1: Winter (Know Yourself)
A gentle descent inward. As we explore the structures and systems of the body, you’ll learn to sense them from within—developing an embodied understanding of your physiology. Through somatic and sensory-based practices, you’ll begin inhabiting your body more fully, increasing nervous system literacy, and strengthening your capacity for self-awareness and regulation.
Part 2: Spring (Know Your Horse)
With greater internal clarity, you’ll begin to turn outward—bringing your embodied presence into relationship with your horse. The anatomical and physiological awareness you’ve developed becomes the basis for attunement as you move into consent-based practices, explore connection through grounded relational work, and learn to co-regulate in authentic partnership. Meetings will include discussion, teaching, and live demonstration with the horses at NL Headquarters.
Live, Weekly Sessions
Each week includes a live 1-hour Zoom call, led by Bettina Shultz-Jobe, Tanner Jobe, Kate Naylor and other members of the NL team, where you’ll:
- Learn anatomy and physiology in a way that helps you understand, interpret, and listen to your own body
- Be guided through embodied practices and relational tools
- Take what you learned during the winter months into your relationship with the horses through the guidance of live demonstrations with the horses at NL Headquarters
- Reflect, process, and grow in community
These sessions are the heart of the course—where you practice, reflect, and connect. Recordings are there as a backup, but the true transformation unfolds when you show up and participate.
Bonus Access for NL Members Only
If you’re an NL member, you’ll also receive full access to Coming Home to the Body with Mark Taylor, a powerful resource for embodied healing. Over 20 hours of rich, experiential content to help you slow down, move inward, and deepen your awareness of your body.
These recordings beautifully complement the learning and practices in Know Yourself, Know Your Horse, giving you tools you can bring to your relationship with your horse, yourself, and your work in the world.

Winter Ceremony:
Nurturing the Hearth Within (January 12)
January 12 at 7:30 pm CST
In this ceremony led by Kate Naylor, we will seek the hearth within us, the ever present light that calls us home to ourselves even in the darkest winters of our lives. As we tend to this fire that burns at the core of our being, we remember that in all darkness, there is life waiting to begin again. Let the warmth there permeate out into the winter that surrounds us this season. Together, we will turn inward and allow creativity in body, mind, and soul to fan the flames flickering within.
