Kathleen Choe

Kathleen has been working as a LPC for the past thirty years with a focus on treating eating disorders. Recognizing the pervasive trauma often underlying this particular diagnosis, Kathleen began pursuing training in trauma-informed care, including TF-CBT and EMDR, and eventually Natural Lifemanship. She has transitioned to an almost entirely equine-assisted therapy practice and has witnessed powerful results doing Equine-Assisted Trauma Processing (essentially EMDR on horseback) with her clients.

Kathleen has been working in the mental health field as a Licensed Professional Counselor for the past thirty years and has witnessed a much needed shift in the field towards treatment methods that incorporate trauma informed care, including more emphasis on somatic and experiential therapies.

When Kathleen first saw Tim Jobe and Bettina Shultz-Jobe demonstrate their Natural Lifemanship model of Trauma Focused Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, she knew this was the experiential component of therapy that she had been looking for to better help her clients heal and thrive.

Kathleen finds Natural Lifemanship principles applicable and useful in both her personal and professional life. She applies her training in EMDR to Equine Assisted Trauma Processing, essentially EMDR on horseback, using the horse’s rhythmic movement to provide the bilateral stimulation for the mounted client.

As an NL trainer, Kathleen is passionate about sharing the principles of Natural Lifemanship so that other therapists and equine specialists can begin using them to help their clients as well.

She has contributed chapters on various topics in the Equine Assisted Services field to several books and enjoys speaking and teaching on these topics in courses and conferences as well.
