- Review the science that informs how, why, and to what ends the Drum Connection Kit may be used to facilitate regulation, connection and integration.
- Demonstrate activities using the drum to promote regulation of the brainstem, diecephalon, limbic system, and neocortex, and that engage all areas of the brain simultaneously to powerfully facilitate integration.
- Demonstrate drum activities with and without horses.
How the Course is Structured and How to Use It
This course is comprised of a series of lessons, each with a video providing instruction on a particular topic related to the Drum Kit. The course is divided into 6 modules: Essential Foundations, Brainstem, Diencephalon, Limbic System, Neocortex, and Earn CE Hours.
Essential Foundations is comprised of 4 lessons addressing trauma and the brain, the practice of “bottom up regulation”, and how the Connection Kit may be used in the context of trauma informed care to promote bottom up regulation and integration of the brain. These lessons should be viewed prior to using the kit and reviewed as necessary as a refresher. They provide an important high level understanding of what it is we are trying to accomplish by targeting specific areas of the brain in a particular sequence with different activities.
Note: the Essential Foundations lessons are provided in each of the Connection Kit courses. If you have already completed these four lessons as part of a different Connection Kit course, you may skip them here, if you wish.
The next four modules, Brainstem, Diencephalon, Limbic System, and Neocortex deliver lessons focusing on various activities that target each respective area of the brain and/or that integrate the entire brain by engaging all major brain regions simultaneously.
Earn CE Hours is an optional module at the end of the course. It has only one lesson, which contains the final quiz. To obtain a certificate of completion for the course, the final quiz must be passed with a minimum of 80% accuracy.
Course Navigation
You may view these lessons in any order you wish so that you may quickly access the content you need. However, we strongly recommend you go through each lesson in order at least once and then revisit parts of the course as needed or desired.
